Validation of emission reduction targets
In July 2021, the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) validated the "well below 2°C" emission reduction objectives, aimed at limiting the increase in global temperature to well below 2°C, in line with the trajectory of the Paris Climate Agreement.
SBTi is an international partnership between Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF).

Partnerships and associations
Cementir actively participates in international associations and organisations promoting sustainable business practises, with the objective of tackling climate change and the socio-economic pressures affecting the cement sector. Main topics include climate change, sustainable infrastructure, innovation and digital transformation, operational efficiency, health and safety, the circular economy, alternative fuels and waste management.
Cembureau
Through Cembureau, the European cement association, Cementir is directly involved in various working groups, including the one for the elaboration of a system revision proposal (ETS) for the allocation of CO₂ quotas and for legislation on sustainable construction, as well as providing feedback to the European Commission regarding the EU Taxonomy.
Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA)
Cementir is a member of the Global Cement and Concrete Association, whose purpose is to interact with international institutions and the most important stakeholders so that cement and concrete are recognized as indispensable elements for achieving the goals of sustainable development and to coordinate the efforts of the building industry to improve and innovate their production processes.
The GCCA works closely with existing national and regional associations.
Through the GCCA, in 2019 Cementir joined Innovandi, a network that connects the cement industry with scientific institutions to promote innovation and collaborate on innovative research projects to support the decarbonisation of the industry.
European Cement Research Academy (ECRA)
