Aalborg Portland Holding celebrates the World Day for Safety and Health at Work

Like every year, April 28 is the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The day was declared by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2003 to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally.

The main purpose is to raise awareness of a topic that is more important than ever, in constant development and which must be placed at the center of the daily work context.

This year’s slogan is “Anticipate, prepare and respond to crises and invest now in resilient OHS systems”. This theme acknowledges the COVID-19 pandemic impact on our working lives and the importance of building an effective, resilient, and adaptable work health and safety framework.

At Aalborg Portland Holding, we consider safety at work as core value and we believe that injuries and work-related illnesses can be prevented.

We have organized activities in all of our plants and locations worldwide to mark the importance of Health and Safety and to reflect on how to prevent work-related occupational injuries and illnesses.
Initiatives have focused on unsafe conditions and behaviors, also concerning the prevention of Covid-19 pandemic infections. The initiatives have been carried out through Toolbox Talks, Safety Walks, etc. led by line managers and supervisors to operational departments with the participation of plant managers.

Occupational health and safety risks can be reduced promoting a safe environment also by observation of unsafe behaviors and conditions around us and taking action to eliminate them.

A key point of our culture on safety is to have a personal exemplary and proactive behavior based on the interdependence of workers at any level of responsibility. Everybody has a role and bears a responsibility to prevent incidents.

The application of the Group Golden Rules of Safety is, in fact, a prerequisite for developing a responsible safety culture, where the principle that “Each one protects everyone” applies.
